Explore local history and remnant rainforest on a relaxed walk around the eclectic Ash Island at Hexham.

Expect to see World War 2 historic sites, birdlife along the Hunter River and the Ash trees that give the island its name.

When: Sunday 3 May from 8:30am
Walk: visiting sites on Ash Island
Distance: 7kms with options to do more or less
Elevation: almost none – it’s a very flat and easy walk
Cost: free
What To Bring: minimum 500ml of water per person, snacks for morning tea, sunscreen and insect repellent (the wetlands aren’t living up to their name at the moment but the mosquitoes are alive and well)
What To Wear: fully enclosed shoes such as walking boots or joggers/sneakers, sun-safe clothing and a hat – please check the weather forecast to see if you’d like to add a raincoat
