This is the year we get out and enjoy more of the beautiful world around us!
Please join us for a relaxed walk from Pearl Beach to Patonga on the Central Coast.
We’ll carpool to Pearl Beach from Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, walk to Patonga for lunch at The Boathouse (or BYO lunch to eat on the beach) then walk back to Pearl Beach.
Expect to see magnificent coastal views, have morning tea in a cave, and make new friends on the trail.
Here are the details:
When: Sunday 11 January
Walk: Pearl Beach to Patonga, lunch then return
Distance: 8 to 9kms
Elevation: approximately 250m
Cost: free
What To Bring: water (minimum amounts to be advised once the weather forecast is clearer), snacks for morning and afternoon tea, a way to pay for lunch at the pub or BYO lunch to eat on the beach, swimmers and a towel if you want to take a dip at Pearl Beach at the end of the walk, sunscreen and insect repellent
What To Wear: fully enclosed shoes such as walking boots or joggers/sneakers, sun-safe clothing and a hat
Important Info: there’s likely to be a water crossing when we get to Patonga. It’s less than 10 metres wide and usually below knee height so be prepared to take off your shoes and socks and roll up your pant legs. If walking barefoot through water and/or on sand is not for you, bring some reef shoes or thongs to change into for that section.
Timing: to be confirmed once the tide times and weather forecast are known 2 to 3 days prior. For now, we will meet at 8am in Cozzie Lane at Ryhope, opposite the entry to Lake Macquarie Crematorium. We will condense into fewer cars and hop onto the highway for the approximately one hour journey to Pearl Beach.
Times, minimum water requirements and final details will be confirmed by email on Friday 9 January.
